As I use it mostly for limes and lemons I didn't want a stand type press because it took up too much kitchen counter real estate. So I did a search on the net and came across this one.First it's stainless steel and built tough,very heavy duty. second it's got a 3" bowl, large enough for the large limes and lemons, but I'm afraid that it's too small for most oranges sold in supermarkets. I feel that the design could be improved with another roll of holes in the bottom of the press, but other than that it's the best I've come across. Since I've received it, I've had a chance to look in several specialty cooking stores and haven't found one comparable. **** Update, it's now 8/15/07. This is solidly built and I expect it to last for a very long time. Also, it's longer handle means it's easier to use.UPDATE: It's been about 4.5 years since I bought this and it still works (and looks) like new. We go through about a dozen lemons and limes each week which comes out to over 5,000 uses without any problems. For me, in hindsight, spending a little extra for the Norpro was a good choice. BTW, I feel that honest, effective reviews can take the place of first-hand experiences that are lacking in online shopping. I've always appreciated the help I've received from other reviewers and work hard to return the favor as best as I can. To prevent the juice from squirting up into your eyes, and to achieve proper extraction, you need to place the lemon or lime half with the cut side pointed down into the press, not up facing you, which would seem to fit better. The squeezer will get every last drop out, and in the process invert the skin of the citrus inside out, leaving you with only the skin and no juice. |
